Archives for the month of: July, 2011

It’s Heeeeeerrreeee!  It’s sweet and juicy and wonderful!  I am sooooooo happy.  My first watermelon!  Whoop Whoop!  I kept checking to see if it was ready to harvest.  Looking at the tendrils near the watermelon to see if they had browned and thumping it to see if it was making the right sound.  It’s quite an art.  And today was the day.  Ripe and ready. Nature is amazing.

It is just too hot!  We are in our triple digit times. Temperatures of 100 degrees and so far we’ve been up to 115 degrees.  Yes, I said so far, the summer is young, we haven’t even gotten really hot yet.  I won’t lie to you, I don’t want to go out there.  Especially in the morning, which is when I have to go out and tend the garden, because by the time I get home from work it’s dark.  So, I run out for a few minutes and run back in, a few times to get things done.  Needless to say a lot isn’t getting done.  I’ve been keeping up with fertilizing and watering and that’s about it.  There are plants that could be replaced and new ones started.  I’m not doing it.  It’s toooooo hot.  I’m just holding on for now, waiting for September.
